Gender Equality Promotion at NWU (History)<\/h3>\n

In November 2000, Nara Women\u2019s University (NWU) re-affirmed its primary commitment to nurture to-be female leaders in a gender-equal society by enacting its basic principles. The first principle is \u201cTo cultivate human resources that will lead to a gender-equal society. Towards the university that disseminates information for the empowerment of women\u201d. In accordance with this commitment, the \u201cGender Equality Promotion Office\u201d was established in November 2005. This office was charged with the task of integrating and evaluating the efforts which had made to that point to advance gender equality. In addition, the new office was expected to play the central role in activities towards the realization of a gender-equal society through collaboration with ongoing initiatives carried out by various entities such as local governments. In May 2011, the \u201cBasic Policy for Gender Equality at NWU\u201d was enacted. In response to these developments, the Gender Equality Promotion Office was expanded to become the \u201cOrganization for the Promotion of Gender Equality\u201d.<\/p>\n

Major activities for gender equality promotion since 2005:<\/p>\n

\u25a0November 2005: founded the \u201cGender Equality Promotion Office\u201d
\n\u25a02006: NWU was selected as one of the institutions to implement the MEXT\u2019s special human resource development program for science and technology, called \u201cModel Program to Support Activities of Female Researchers\u201d
\nNOTE: MEXT = Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
\n(Program title: \u201cDevelopment of Life-Long Mutual Support System for Female Researchers\u201d 2006-2008)
\n\u25a1established the \u201cOffice of Mutual-assistance and Support for Women Researchers\u201d
\n\u25a0April 2009: continued activities\/projects undertaken by the \u201cOffice of Mutual-assistance and Support for Female Researchers\u201d using NWU\u2019s internal funding
\n\u25a02010: NWU was selected as one of the organizations to implement the special program, called \u201cSupporting Positive Activities for Female Researchers\u201d supported by the MEXT, Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology.
\n(Program title: \u201cCreating the Center for the Development of Next-Generation Female Researchers by Tradition and Reformation\u201d 2010-2014)
\n\uf075reorganized the \u201cGender Equality Promotion Office\u201d into three headquarters
\n(the \u201cOffice of Promoting Gender Equality\u201d, the \u201cOffice of Mutual-Assistance and Support for Women Researchers\u201d, and the \u201cOffice of Reform Promotion in the Training System for Women Researchers\u201d)
\n\u25a02011\u5e74\u3000NWU was chosen to be one of the institutions to implement the MEXT\u2019s special human resource development program for science and technology, called \u201cCareer Development for Postdoctoral Fellows\u201d. (2011-2015)
\nreorganized the \u201cGender Equality Promotion Office\u201d into 4 headquarters
\n(established the \u201cOffice of Career Development for Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students\u201d as the 4th headquarter)
\n\u25a0May 2011: enacted the \u201cBasic Policy for Gender Equality at NWU\u201d
\n\u25a0December 2012: \u3000founded the \u201cOrganization for the Promotion of Gender Equality\u201d
\n(closed the \u201cGender Equality Promotion Office\u201d, but still keeps the 4 headquarters structure\uff09
\n\u25a0April 2016: integrated the \u201cOffice of Mutual-assistance and Support for Women Researchers\u201d and the \u201cOffice of Reform Promotion in the Training System for Women Researchers\u201d into the \u201cOffice of Diversity in Research Environment\u201d
